Regular Events

At Grace International School we want to foster a community atmosphere by working closely with parents, other schools and the wider community. This is done through a range of activities both in and outside of school time. Some of the regular events are described below.

After School Activities

There is a wide range of optional After School Activities. Current choices include badminton, photography, tee shirt painting, cooking and takraw.

Sports

Through the year the students at Grace participate in the programme of inter-school sports. Many of these take place after school and at the weekend. In addition Grace holds its own Swimming gala and Sports Day.

Drama and Music

There is a grand end of term production at the school to celebrate Christmas. Singing, music and drama are also featured in the awards ceremony at the end of the school year. A range of musical instrument and dance teaching is available outside school hours from private teachers at the Grace campus.

Duke of Edinburgh

Year 10 and 11 are currently taking their bronze level Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme is designed to challenge a young person's resourcefulness and initiative in a number of contexts, including on expeditions and in social service. The D of E is established in many countries but Grace is the first school in Bangladesh to implement the scheme.

Field Trips

Each year, students at Upper School take part in residential field trips to far flung parts of Bangladesh or -- for the older students -- into neighbouring India. These are opportunities to study beyond the classroom, to explore new places and have lots of fun together! Years 6 and 7 have recently returned from a residential fild trip to 'Lamb' in the north of Bangladesh. (see pics on the next page!) There they visited a number of interesting local sites including a coal mine, fishery and historic temple complex. However, one high-spot for most of us was being stopped on a country road by an enormous elephant whose driver demanded a fee before we could proceed. As you can imagine, we paid up cheerfully! Grace students also enjoyed interacting with new friends from Lamb Hospital School for sports and games.

Community Support

Grace has a established a link with a local school for far less fortunate students than ours. There is an annual sale which raises money for school resources for these neighbours. Pupils and teachers build the relationship both ways: for example the school came to Grace to share Bengali dance and songs.
